Why I´m painting?
This question never bothered me in my childhood; I just did it because painting gave me pleasure. After so many years of painting, it is still like this, I paint because it flows.

In my childhood pictures, there were experiences and narratives that occupied me, which I had to capture and overcome. Initially, it was my first diving experiences, allowing me paint the underwater images and stories; such as Moby Dick or Ulysses. What concerns me makes me think, I mirror it constantly in my pictures.

I ask the question therefore, different: Why am I painting something?

The painting process itself, the study of color and image compositions, nature, landscape, etc. would be sufficient as a justification.

However, my intentions are different. Painting means to me the visualization of a basic thought. Therefore resulting images are visualized interpretations of incidents. By them I get a spatial distance to my idea of everything’s. The why in a painting is the first question that arises for me. It is the expectation of a response to what I saw.

The uniqueness of pictures means, that the train of thought gives rise to them, wordlessly flowing into the mind of a viewer. Because of that, we picture the universal language of mankind, which every single able eyed human can understand.

Warum male ich?
Diese Frage stellte sich mir als Kind nie, ich tat es einfach weil es mir Freude bereitete. Nach so vielen Jahren des Bildermachens ist es noch immer so, ich male,weil es fließt.

In den Kinderbildern waren es Erlebnisse und Erzählungen die mich beschäftigten, die ich festhalten und bewältigen musste. Anfänglich waren es meine ersten Taucherlebnisse die mich Unterwasserbilder malen ließen und Geschichten wie Mobby Dick oder die des Odysseus. Was mich beschäftigt, mich zum nachdenken zwingt, spiegle ich seither beständig in meinen Bildern.

Ich stelle die Frage also anders: Warum male ich etwas?

Der Malprozess an sich, die Beschäftigung mit Farb- und Bildkompositionen, Natur, Landschaft, etc. wären als Begründung ausreichend.

Meine Intension ist jedoch eine andere. Malen bedeutet für mich die Visualisierung eines Grundgedankens. Die entstehenden Bilder sind visualisierte Interpretationen von Ereignissen. Durch sie bekomme ich einen räumlichen Abstand zu meiner Vorstellung der Dinge. Das Warum eines Bildes ist daher die erste Frage die sich mir stellt. Es ist die Erwartung einer Antwort an das Gesehene.

Das Schönste an Bildern bedeutet für mich, dass der Gedankengang der sie werden ließ, wortlos in die Gedankenwelt eines Betrachters einfließt, denn Bilder sind die Universalsprache der Menschheit und jeder Sehende kann sie verstehen.
